Liberal Arts: Vocation vs. Vocational
Recently the news media have been abuzz about a growing -- and to some, an unwelcome -- trend now evident at even the most selective liberal-arts colleges. According to The New York Times, for example, several institutions, including Amherst, Colgate, Columbia, and the University of Southern California, are owning up to helping their students acquire "job skills" in "vocational classes."
